All procurement procedures related to investments in the main irrigation infrastructure were organized and carried out in strict compliance with the legislation in force, under conditions of transparency, competition and equal treatment for all interested economic operators, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) specifies, following information published in the public domain.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Rural Development, in 2025, through the National Land Improvement Agency (ANIF), three works contracts were signed, totaling 182.91 million lei (36.5 million euros), aimed at modernizing and rehabilitating the main irrigation infrastructure, agerpres reports.
Given the strategic importance of these investments for Romania's food security and for the sustainable development of agriculture, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin Barbu, requested Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to set up a control team to verify the organization and conduct of the tenders regarding investments in the main irrigation infrastructure carried out through ANIF.
"We note that, following the controls carried out so far by the competent institutions, no irregularities have been found in the conduct of ANIF's public procurement procedures," MADR specifies.
At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasizes that any statements regarding alleged irregularities must be based on documents, verifiable data and official findings and not on speculation or defamatory statements, which may mislead public opinion and may unreasonably affect the credibility of state institutions and strategic projects for Romania.
"The irrigation system is a vital area for the development of agriculture and constitutes one of the major priorities of my mandate. That is precisely why I want every project, every tender and every leu invested in irrigation infrastructure to be irreproachable from a legal and administrative point of view. Total transparency and strict compliance with the law are essential for farmers to have confidence that these investments, vital for Romanian agriculture, are made correctly and in the public interest," declared the Minister of Agriculture, quoted in the press release.
