The Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and Save Romania Union (USR) agreed this weekend on their ministerial picks for the ongoing Bolojan Government. Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu (USR) is the pick for National Defense minister and Deputy Prime Minister.
Liviu-Ionut Mosteanu was born December 23, 1973 in the town of Stefanesti, Arges County.
He attended the 'Al. Odobescu' High School in Pitesti (1988 - 1992), the Automation Faculty of the University of Bucharest (1992-1995) and the 'Bioterra' University - earning a degree in Management (1996 - 1999). Over 2018 - 2020 he pursued a master's degree at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Philosophy - "Philosophy, Politics and Economics".
Between 1993-1995 he worked as a sales representative at Canon Service / Messner GMBH, then as an Executive Manager at Texas Express (1995-1999). From August 1999 to September 2002 he worked as an Account Manager at Scala Thompson / JWT, Senior Brand Communication Manager at Mobifon SA / Connex (November 2002 - December 2004), and Marketing Specialist Romania & Moldova at Western Union GMBH Austria - Romanian office (December 2004 - February 2006). Later on he had a stint as a Strategic Planning Director at Cohn & Jansen (February - October 2006), Brand Communication Director at Leo Burnett & Target (November 2006 - September 2007) and as General Manager at Total Branding Partners (October 2007 - December 2015).
He served as a minister's advisor (December 2015 - May 2016) and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Transport (May - October 2016).
From December 2016 to 2024 he was a USR deputy in constituency No. 3 - Arges County. From 2016 to 2024 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies' Committee on Transport and Infrastructure and the Select Committee on Sports; in the 2020-2024 legislature he was the leader of the Save Romania Union parliamentary group. Member of the Standing Bureau in the September 2017 - January 2018 session.
In the December 1, 2024 parliamentary election he secured his third mandate as a lawmaker. He is the leader of USR's Lower House group. He was a member of the Committee for Public Administration and Territorial Planning (until February 2025), and later joined the Committee on Defense, Public Order and National Security (in February 2025). He is a member of the Delegation of the Romanian Parliament to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and is part of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Hellenic Republic and the Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Bulgaria.
Mosteanu is also a member of the USR National Bureau.
