President Nicusor Dan will participate today in an informal meeting of the European Council that takes place at Alden Biesen Castle in Belgium.

According to the Presidential Administration, the main subject of this meeting is to comprehensively debate, at the level of European leaders, how to generate more prosperity, well-being and quality services for citizens in the new global context marked by profound transformations.

Strengthening the single market and increasing the competitiveness of the European Union are the main solutions on the table.

The agenda will include strengthening European industry and building the EU's strategic autonomy, reducing bureaucracy and national barriers, simplifying legislation, and also encouraging investment and innovation to develop European economies.

In preparation for this European Council meeting, Dan requested points of view from entities dealing with European issues in order to articulate a consistent vision of Romania regarding the priorities for action at EU level moving forward.

In this regard, the Presidential Administration hosted this week applied discussions with the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, the Minister of European Investments and Projects, Drago Pislaru, the Minister of Economy, Irineu Darau, and officials with the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Bank of Romania.

At today's meeting, Dan will promote Romania's interests in terms of economic development and competitiveness, which can be fulfilled only in a fully integrated and functional single market.

That is why, during the discussions, Dan will plead for the consolidation of the single market, attracting investments and using the new trade opportunities resulting from the agreements recently signed by the European Union, which will open up new economic possibilities for Romania.

At the same time, the chief of state will talk in support of the need to simplify administrative procedures for businesses, which would facilitate the growth of investments and the expansion of Romanian companies on European markets.

Romania will also promote integrated solutions to reduce strategic dependencies by identifying international partnerships, especially in the field of critical raw materials.

As far as energy is concerned, Dan believes that the solution to reduce costs for citizens and companies in Romania is the consolidation of the Energy Union, i.e. a better interconnection of European energy networks.

The president will also call for longer transition periods for the implementation of environmental policies, so that they are sustainable and do not negatively affect Romania's economy.

Regarding the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028 - 2034, the President of Romania supports a significant allocation aimed at increasing competitiveness, but will also maintain that geographical criteria must also be taken into account in order to bridge the existing economic gaps between European countries.
