AGERPRES special correspondent Cristian Lupascu reports: Ukraine will not face difficulties in securing electricity for domestic consumption if Slovakia halts its exports, Serhii Sukhomlyn, head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development, told AGERPRES on Tuesday.
The Kyiv government official said that any electricity no longer supplied by Slovakia could be offset by imports from Poland or other European countries.
"At present, the situation is not critical. Slovakia has not supplied Ukraine with a very large amount of electricity. We are entering spring, the days are getting longer, and in Ukraine we have the capacity to generate power from photovoltaic systems, helping to balance the energy system. The electricity Slovakia might have provided does not pose a problem for us. Both Poland and other countries are supplying sufficient quantities," Sukhomlyn explained.
He also referred to prospects for developing joint electricity networks with Romania.
"With Romania, we see significant potential. We can build new high-voltage power lines. Two lines could be constructed with Romania. It is not easy, but the project is feasible," Serhii Sukhomlyn added.
