Justice Minister Tudorel Toader stated on Tuesday evening that irrespective of the Superior Council of Magistrates (CSM)'s opinion on Adina Florea's proposal for the position of chief prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), he will go ahead with the procedure.
"CSM's prosecutors will not favourably receive, so to speak, my affirmation, but, irrespective of their opinion, I will go ahead with the procedure and will send to the president [Klaus Iohannis, ed.n.] Ms. prosecutor [Adina Florea, ed.n.]'s candidacy. Because I repeat, it is a consultative opinion, Tudorel Toader told private TV broadcaster Antena 3.
He added he is convinced that the Prosecutors' Section [of the Superior Council of Magistrates, ed.n.]'s opinion will be negative.
"I am waiting for the moment Ms. prosecutor is heard. From a procedural point of view I will be present and I will support her candidacy. I expect them [the members of the Prosecutors' Section, ed.n.] to deliberate and make the decision, give the opinion most appropriate to the situation in which Ms. prosecutor will present herself. Personally, I strongly believe that today's opinion will be a negative one, but as soon as I get it, I will send to the president Ms. prosecutor's candidacy," Toader said.
As regards Adina Florea's proposal as the DNA head, Toader showed that the former convinced the Committee through her professional experience and the way she presented "DNA's good and less good parts."
"I did not propose as the head of DNA the one with the most rigorous and the best managerial programme. Why is that? Because I have noticed a great discrepancy between what is written and the interview. Certainly I have full consideration toward each of the candidates but I repeat, the best managerial programme did not convince me that he/she can be the best candidate future head of DNA. Ms. prosecutor that I proposed for the position of DNA head, through the content of her file, her professional experience but also through the way she presented herself at the interview, the way she presented the good and less good parts of DNA, the measures and terms and all the others that she proposes for improving the DNA's activity, she unanimously convinced the Committee that she is the one to be designated candidate for the head of DNA," the minister specified.
