Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian will face Australian of Russian origin Daria Kasatkina in the round of 16 of the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide (Australia), equipped with total prizes worth 1,206,446 US dollars, after the latter defeated Greek Maria Sakkari, 7-6 (7/2), 6-4, on Monday.
Jaqueline Cristian (27 years old, WTA's 37th), coming from the qualifiers, also produced a surprise on Monday, by winning against Russian Ekaterina Aleksandrova (31 years old, WTA's 11th), 6-4, 6-4.
Kasatkina (28 years old, WTA's 48th) has 3-0 in direct matches with the Romanian, whom she defeated in 2022, in the second round of the tournament in Doha, 2-6, 2-2 (Cristian retired), in 2024 in the quarterfinals in Charleston, 6-7 (4/7), 6-2, 6-3, and in the same year in the first round at the US Open, 6-2, 6-4.
