INSP reports 20 people died last week from influenza

Twenty people died across the country last week from the flu, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) informed on Thursday.

Since the start of the season, 40 deaths caused by influenza have been reported, agerpres reports.

"In the week 12-18 January, 96,582 cases of respiratory infections (clinical influenza, acute upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia) were reported, representing 30.7% more cases compared with the previous week (73,880) and 23% fewer cases compared with the same week of the previous season (125,452). The negative variation compared with the calculated average of 109,832 cases from recent seasons (2018-2025, excluding the pandemic seasons) was 12.1%," the quoted source informs.

In the same period, 6,287 cases of clinical flu were reported nationwide, compared with 8,585 in the previous week and 6,994 in the same week of last season, and 1.5 times higher than the average of the last five seasons (4,194).

In the same interval, 163 cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded (57 with influenza virus AH3, 13 with influenza virus AH1 and 93 with unsubtyped influenza virus A).

By 18 January, a total of 1,287,313 influenza vaccinations had been recorded in the National Electronic Vaccination Register, of which 1,260,967 were administered to population groups eligible for reimbursement under the compensated scheme, including 6,062 influenza vaccinations administered in authorised community pharmacies.
