The Ministry of Finance (MF) on Monday borrowed over RON 1.303 billion off banks in two issues of government bonds, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

MF raised RON 999.5 million in a government bond issue of a residual maturity of 54 months, at an average yield of 6.21% per annum. The nominal value of the issue was RON 600 million lei, and the banks offered RON 1.584 billion. An additional auction is scheduled for Tuesday for another RON 150 million at the yield set on Monday for bonds.

Also, the ministry raised RON 304 million in another issue of government bonds of a residual maturity of 145 months, at an average yield of 6.66% per annum. The value of the issue was RON 400 million, and the banks offered RON 374 million. An additional auction is scheduled for Tuesday for another RON 45.6 million lei at the yield set on Monday for bonds.

MF has planned for February 2026 to borrow RON 7.7 billion off commercial banks, to which 15% of the nominal value of the reference auctions can be added in additional sessions of non-competitive offers exclusively for benchmark instruments.

The total amount of RON 7.7 billion is RON 2.3 billion lower than the one scheduled for January 2026 of RON 10 billion, and it is intended for public debt refunding and government deficit financing.
