The leaders of the governing coalition gathered on Thursday morning at the Victoria Palace to discuss the budget revision.

Attending the meeting were, among others, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, the National Liberal Party (PNL) Chairman; Sorin Grindeanu, interim Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD); Vice Prime Minister Tanzcos Barna and Development Minister Cseke Atilla (the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania - UDMR); National Defence Minister Ionut Mosteanu (the Save Romania Union - USR); and Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare.

On Wednesday evening, the PSD leader expressed hope that coalition members would reach an agreement on the budget revision, starting from the fact that this will be based on a deficit of 8.4 percent, a figure agreed with the European Commission by the Finance Minister.

"Today, I had discussions with all PSD ministers (...). Of course, there are some adjustments that I hope we can overcome tomorrow, nothing serious, but we are still focused on finding some additional funds and I conveyed this aspect to Minister Nazare, not a large amount, for investments. It is not an extraordinary effort, we have solutions within the 8.4 percent margin, as requested by the European Commission. (...) Tomorrow, we must have a very important discussion on the budget revision. I want us to reach an agreement. Certainly, the process was rushed. Around noon today, I received all the data, we will see. Later in the evening I got a message from Mr. Kelemen Hunor, who had not received it yet. I hope all coalition parties will reach an agreement tomorrow because we are talking about the budget revision, an extremely important government act," Grindeanu stated on Wednesday evening at Antena 3 CNN private television station.

Also on Wednesday, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan outlined a timetable for the approval of the budget revision in the Government.

"In respect to the Government's activity these days, an important thing is the budget revision. This revision will basically start tomorrow and will be published for public consultation by Friday morning at the latest. It will follow the guidelines we have presented and will be detailed by Minister Nazare as soon as it is made public, mentioning the main allocated amounts and the financial adjustments ensured by this revision. This means that early next week, by Tuesday at the latest, the Government is expected to hold an extraordinary meeting to approve the budget revision, in order to ensure the current payments, to supplement necessary funds for social assistance and other sectors, including a slight increase on the investments component," Ilie Bolojan told a news conference at the Victoria Palace.

According to the PM, this budget revision is quite tense taking into account the pressure coming from the investments area.
