The Government approved on Thursday a memorandum on the negotiation and signing of a cooperation protocol between Romania and Serbia for implementing the feasibility study referring to planning and designing a new high speed road way between Timisoara and Pancevo. According to a Government press release, the two governments will collaborate for the diplomatic and financial support of the investment projects related to the transport at the common border between Romania and Serbia, mainly for the construction of the Timisoara - Vrsac - Pancevo motorway by 2025, according to the feasibility study results.
"Including a new motorway is a priority in the transport masterplans of the two states. The sector between Vrsac and Pancevo is acknowledged in the single list of Serbia's prepared projects, and the work execution on the Timisoara - Moravita road sector is included in the implementing strategy of Romania's General Transport Masterplan on the long list of road sector projects, in the first funding period 2014-2020, with 29.5 million euro VAT excluded," the release shows. The Government says that ensuring an infrastructure dealing with the increasing flow of people and goods between Romania and Serbia is a necessity, in the context in which the current transport network is insufficiently developed for the current needs of the border area.
"The new high speed road will contribute to the connection of the road corridor to the railway modes that transit Romania and the river mode crossing Hungary, Serbia and Romania, represented by the Danube. The Timisoara - Pancevo motorway construction is also aimed at increasing social inclusion and the quality of life in the trans-border area, as well as at uniformly developing the transport infrastructure capable to support the road traffic for persons and good in the border crossing points, by creating new transport connections," the cited source added.
