Five Romanian tennis players qualified on Tuesday for the round of 16 of the Intaro Open challenger tournament in Targu Mures, which has a total prize pool of 54,000 euros: Filip Cristian Jianu, Gabi Adrian Boitan, Cezar Cretu, Stefan Palosi and Radu Mihai Papoe.
Jianu (23 years old, 264 ATP), seed no. 3, defeated Italian Tommaso Compagnucci (25 years old, 491 ATP) 6-2, 6-1, in 62 minutes, Agerpress.
Gabi Adrian Boitan (26 years old, 362 ATP) defeated Dan Alexandru Tomescu (26 years old, 538 ATP), 6-3, 6-1, in one hour and 31 minutes. The score of the direct matches between the two is equal, 3-3.
Cezar Cretu (24 years old, 426 ATP), who came from the qualifiers, defeated Mihai Alexandru Coman (20 years old), 6-3, 6-2, in 64 minutes.
Stefan Palosi (25 years old, 731 ATP) went past French Mathys Erhard (23 years old, 263 ATP), 7-6 (7/5), 6-4, after playing for two hours and 16 minutes.
Radu Mihai Papoe (23 years old, 620 ATP), who came from the qualifiers, defeated South Korean Gerard Campana Lee (20 years old, 456 ATP), 6-4, 7-6 (8/6), after two hours and 13 minutes of playing.
Nicholas David Ionel got defeated in the first round by Croatian Mili Poljicak, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Two other Romanians will play in the first round, Sebastian Gima and Stefan Andreescu.
The winners of the first round each won 900 euros and 4 ATP points.
