A total of 101 songs entered this year's edition of the National Selection, competing to represent Romania at Eurovision, with the semi-finalists of the contest to be chosen on Friday.
The registration campaign for the National Selection (SN) ended on Monday, with composers having almost three weeks to register for the competition, TVR reported on Wednesday.
According to the SN 2026 regulations, the preselection of the songs participating in the contest will take place on Thursday, and the semi-finalists will be selected on Friday.
"The second stage of the National Selection will take place within the Eurovision 2026 Open Workshop: for three days, the contestants will perform the songs live, in front of the jury, live on tvrplus.ro, and the songs will be posted on TVR's official YouTube page, www.youtube.com/TVRcanaluloficial. On February 12, we will find out the ten qualified finalists in the last act of the competition," the quoted source specifies.
The Grand Final will take place in the TVR studios on March 4, when the jury will choose Romania's representative at ESC 2026. For the last act of the National Selection, Romanian Television will produce a TV show broadcast live, on air and online, exclusively on TVR.

On Monday, January 12, in Vienna, the city that will host this year's Eurovision Song Contest, the draw for the two semi-finals of the competition took place. The draw decided that Romania will enter the first part of the semi-final with entry number 2 of the contest, on May 14.
Under the slogan "United by Music", the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 will have semi-finals on May 12 and 14 and the final on May 16.
In the 64th edition of the music competition, alongside Romania, 34 other countries registered: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The previous edition of the music competition was won by Austria's representative, JJ, with the song "Wasted Love".
An international music competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Eurovision is the largest association of public broadcasters in Europe.
The first edition took place in 1956, in Lugano, Switzerland, the show becoming, over the seven decades of its existence, one of the longest-running and most-watched television programs in the world.
Among the artists who have performed on the Eurovision stage over the years are: ABBA, Julio Iglesias, Celine Dion, Johnny Logan.
Romanian Television, a member of the EBU, is the organizer of the National Selection and has participated in the European competition since 1993.
Romania's best performances at this contest were: third place twice (Luminita Anghel & Sistem - Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi - Oslo, 2010) and fourth place once (Mihai Trăistariu - Athens, 2006).
