The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London (RPO) led by the internationally acclaimed Vasily Petrenko will perform on Saturday from 19:30, for the second consecutive evening, at the Palace Hall, as part of the George Enescu International Festival, the event's website informs.
The soloist of the event will be Chinese-Canadian pianist Bruce Liu; the multimedia backdrop is designed by Carmen Lidia Vidu.
The playbill includes Reunion - Finale from The Sea Hawk by Erich Wolfgang Korngold; Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in A minor Op. 43 by Sergei Rachmaninov, and Scheherazade Op. 35 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
* The Giocoso Quartet (Sebastian Casleanu - violin, Kate Maloney - violin, Martha Cisleanu-Windhagauer - viola, Ariel Barnes - cello) were scheduled to perform from 11:00 at the Auditorium Hall of the National Museum of Art of Romania alongside pianist Luiza Borac, described as "a most poetic artist" (Süddeutsche Zeitung), "an ever resourceful and imaginative pianist" (Gramophone) and a "formidable interpreter" (San Francisco Chronicle).
The program featured Quartet No. 2 in D minor for piano, violin, viola and cello Op. 30 by George Enescu, the String Quartet in F major M. 35 by Maurice Ravel, and the Piano Quintet in G minor Op. 57 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
* At the Radio Hall, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra was to take the stage from 13:00 under the baton of Nicholas Collon, with pianists Lucas & Arthur Jussen as soloists.
The program includes Memorial by Anatol Vieru, Concerto No. 1 in E major for two pianos and orchestra by Felix Mendelssohn, and Symphony No. 4 in D minor Op. 120 by Robert Schumann.
* A concert by Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes and German violinist Christian Tetzlaff is slated from 16:30 at the Romanian Athenaeum, with the Sonata for violin and piano in A major K. 526 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sonata No. 2 in G major for violin and piano M. 77 by Maurice Ravel, Sonata No. 3 in D minor for violin and piano Op. 108 by Johannes Brahms, and Winter Sonata (first Romanian audition) by Donghoon Shin on the bill.
* From 22:30, the Romanian Athenaeum will be the venue for the performance of Il Giardino Armonico, one of the most important ensembles of period instruments in the world, and the NFM Choir.
The conductor of the evening is Giovanni Antonini, Lionel Sow is the artistic director of the choir, and the soloists of the concert are soprano Annet Fritsch, mezzo-soprano Justyna Rapacz Olów, tenor Dovlet Nurgeldiyev and bass Volodymyr Andrushchak.
The program will include the Overture to the opera Idomeneo K. 366, Kyrie in D minor K. 341, Mass in C major K. 317 - "Coronation Mass" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Symphony No. 3 in E flat major Op. 55 "Eroica" by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The 27th edition of the George Enescu International Music Festival takes place in Bucharest and around Romania throughout September 21. This year's theme is anniversaries - "Celebrations" - in tribute to the 70th death anniversary of the great composer.
