Defense Minister Miruta, Turkish ambassador discuss bilateral defense cooperation with an emphasis on joint participation in multinational exercises and activities

Minister of National Defense Radu Miruta met on Tuesday with ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Romania, Ozgur Kivanc Altan, with the two discussing - among others - the development of bilateral defense cooperation, with an emphasis on joint participation in multinational exercises and activities, the Ministry of National Defense said in a release.

The talks reaffirmed the very good Romanian-Turkish dialogue on defense, with Minister Miruta underscoring the importance of continuing joint projects at political and military level and highlighting the outstanding results achieved so far.

"The meeting highlighted the efficient cooperation between NATO allies bordering the Black Sea - Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey - through the Naval Mine Countermeasures Task Force (MCM Black Sea), an initiative that directly contributes to strengthening maritime security in the region," the cited source states.

The two officials also discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of defense, with an emphasis on joint participation in multinational exercises and activities. Minister Miruta highlighted in this context the role of the Romanian-Turkish military and technical partnership, voicing appreciation for both the experience and technological capacity of the Turkish defense industry, as well as for the involvement of Turkish companies in the Romanian Army's equipment programs, the Ministry of Defense reports.

"Romania appreciates its solid cooperation with Turkey in the field of defense and the valuable contribution of this strategic partner to the implementation of deterrence and defense measures in the Black Sea region. We want to intensify collaboration, including at technical at military level," Minister Radu Miruta said, as cited in the release.

The Romanian official reaffirmed Romania's commitment to closely monitor security developments in the region and to actively support initiatives that contribute to strengthening the defense and deterrence posture, both within NATO and in bilateral and regional formats.
