The decision to join the Board of Peace will be made in the Supreme Council for Country's Defense (CSAT), Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare told a Tuesday's press conference.

"This decision is a strategic one, related to foreign policy. It is very important and will be discussed in the forum in which these decisions are made. Obviously, a sum of one billion dollars is an important sum. But I repeat, decisions regarding these things are made in the CSAT. In the event that this discussion takes place, and I am convinced that it will take place at some point in the CSAT, we will evaluate this," said Nazare when asked by journalists about the sum of one billion dollars to obtain a seat on the Board.

The Presidential Administration in Bucharest confirmed on Sunday that President Nicusor Dan had received a letter officially inviting Romania to become a member of the Board.

Other governments have been reluctant in public statements, and officials and diplomats have generally expressed their concern, on condition of anonymity, that the new structure could harm the work of the United Nations.

The Board would be led by Trump for life and would initially deal with the Gaza conflict, and later with other issues, according to a copy of the invitation and a draft charter.

States would have three-year terms on the Board, but could become permanent members in exchange for a contribution of one billion dollars.
