In 2025, Romania produced over 2.472 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) of crude oil, 202,600 toe less (-7.6%) than the amount recorded in the previous year, according to data centralised by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Crude oil imports totalled 8.894 million toe during the analysed period, 631,200 toe more than those recorded in 2024 (+7.6%).
According to the latest Energy Balance Prognosis published by the National Strategy and Prognosis Commission (CNSP), crude oil production is expected to decline by an average annual rate of 2.5% until 2027.
Thus, for 2025, the CNSP estimated a crude oil output of 2.74 million toe (-2.8% compared with the previous year), 2.68 million toe in 2026 (-2.2%) and 2.63 million toe in 2027 (-1.9%).
According to the CNSP, this decrease is the result of the natural decline of reserves and the continued operation of existing production units.
Crude oil imports were estimated to increase by 10.4% in 2025, to 7 million toe, by 7.4% in 2026, to 7.52 million toe and by 7.8% in 2027.
