The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) on Wednesday issued a Code Yellow flood warning, valid on rivers in five counties until Thursday afternoon.
According to hydrologists, between 18 February at 11:00 and 19 February at 16:00, significant runoff on slopes, torrents and streams, flash floods, rises in flow and water levels, with possible exceedances of alert thresholds, are expected on rivers in the following basins: Desnatui - upstream of the Fantanele Reservoir and its tributaries downstream of the Fantanele Reservoir (Mehedinti and Dolj counties), the Jiu River - downstream of the confluence with the Motru River to upstream of Podari Hydrotechnical Facility (Dolj County), right-bank tributaries of the Jiu River downstream of the confluence with the Motru River to upstream of Podari Hydrotechnical Facility (Mehedinti and Dolj counties), Olt - tributaries downstream of the confluence with the Oltet River (Olt and Dolj counties), Calmatui (Olt and Teleorman counties) and Vedea - upstream of Valeni Hydrotechnical Facility and its tributaries downstream of Valeni Hydrotechnical Facility (Arges, Olt and Teleorman counties).
INHGA advises the population in the affected counties to avoid travelling near watercourses under warning, not to cross flooded areas and to take preventive measures to protect property.
It is also recommended to follow the instructions of local authorities and emergency structures in order to limit the possible effects of the forecast hydrological phenomena.
