Catalin Marian Predoiu, picked for Minister of Internal Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister

The Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and the Save Romania Union (USR) agreed this weekend on the proposed ministers who will be part of the Bolojan Government. Catalin Marian Predoiu (PNL) has been picked for the position of Minister of Internal Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister.

Catalin Marian Predoiu was born on August 27, 1968 in the city of Buzau, Buzau County, according to the CV published on the official government website https://gov.ro.

He studied at the 'Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu' National College (1982-1986) and the Faculty of Law at the University of Bucharest (1987-1991). In 2003, he earned a PhD in Law, Summa cum Laudae, from the University of Bucharest.

He completed further academic training in 1994, when he attended a specialisation internship in the legal profession at the Caen Bar Association, France.

He was a university lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest (1994-2007).

He has been a member of the Bucharest Bar since 1991. He was founding associate and coordinator of various law firms: 'Racoti Predoiu' (1995-2007) and 'Zamfirescu Racoti Predoiu' (2007-2008). He worked as a lawyer at the "Catalin Predoiu Individual Law Office" (2012-2016) and was co-founder of the law firm "Stoian Predoiu" (2016-November 2019). He was also the owner of the "Predoiu Marian Catalin" law office (Feb - November 25, 2021).

Political activity
Catalin Predoiu joined the Democratic Liberal Party (PDL) on July 5, 2013. He served as First Vice-President of PDL (2013-2014). On July 26, 2014, the extraordinary Congress of the National Liberal Party (PNL) approved the merger protocol with PDL, including the new party's statute and political program, and the protocol of the Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL). He served as First Vice-President of PNL (2014-2017) and President of PNL Bucharest (Dec. 2015 - June 2016).

Parliamentary career
In the 2016-2020 legislature, he was elected as Deputy in constituency No. 12 Calarasi, on PNL's list. He served as: Vice-President of the Standing Bureau (Dec. 2016 - Feb. 2017; Feb. - Sept. 2017); member of the Legal Committee for Discipline and Immunities; member of the Special Joint Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for legislative systematisation and stability in justice; member of the Romanian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (until April 2017), according to www.cdep.ro.

On December 6, 2020, he was elected deputy in constituency No. 31 Prahova, on PNL's list. In the 2024 parliamentary election he won a Senator seat in electoral district No. 32 Satu Mare, again on PNL's list.

Government roles
Catalin Predoiu has served in numerous ministerial and government positions: Minister of Justice and CSAT member under Prime Ministers Calin Popescu-Tariceanu (Feb. - Nov. 2008) and Emil Boc (Dec. 2008 - Oct. 2009), Interim Minister of Justice, after the Boc Government was dismissed by a no-confidence vote (Oct. 2009); Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs (Oct. 2009); Minister of Justice in the fourth Boc Cabinet (Dec. 23, 2009 - Feb. 6, 2012); Interim Prime Minister (Feb. 6-9, 2012); Minister of Justice in the Ungureanu Government (Feb. 9 - May 7, 2012); Minister of Justice and CSAT member in the Ludovic Orban Government (Nov. 2019 - Dec. 2020); Minister of Justice, CSAT member (Nov. 2021 - June 15, 2023); Interim Prime Minister (June 12-15, 2023); Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs, CSAT member (since June 15, 2023).

On December 23, 2024, Catalin Predoiu was again proposed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs in the government formed by Marcel Ciolacu, following the parliamentary elections of December 1, 2024. On May 6, 2025, Acting President Ilie Bolojan signed the decree designating Catalin Predoiu as Interim Prime Minister, to perform the duties of the prime minister until the new government is formed, after Marcel Ciolacu resigned on May 5, 2025.

Publications and awards
Catalin Predoiu has published numerous legal studies, specialty papers, and political opinion articles.

In 2003, he received the 'I.L. Georgescu' Award from the Union of Jurists of Romania, and the 'Simion Barnutiu' Award from the Romanian Academy.
