"Bibaniada", the only fishing competition in the Danube Delta dedicated exclusively to women, will bring 13 teams made up of locals and tourists to the starting line on Saturday on the Ligheanca Canal in the Danube Delta.
The event, organized by the Ivan Patzaichin-Mila 23 Association, with the support of the Crisan Commune Town Hall and several private companies, will begin at 6:00 a.m.
According to a press release issued by the organizers, the competition will be followed at 11:00 a.m. by a culinary demonstration using the catch caught by the participants in the competition, as well as a festival of local gastronomic delights.
"Bibaniada" not only legitimizes the custom of women from Mila 23 going out to fish for perch, but also reinforces valuable local traditions with new concepts such as sustainability and responsible tourism, which are essential for the future of the Delta. The excitement of setting out on the water at dawn, fishing, competing alongside a local teammate, cooking traditional recipes to the music provided by Lipovan women, all these are opportunities for tourists (in fact, primarily for female tourists) to enjoy authentic experiences that will transform their vacations into memorable adventures," said the president of the Ivan Patzaichin - Mila 23 association, Ivona Potzaichin-Rusu, as quoted in the press release.
The awards ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. at the Ivan Patzaichin Community Center, and 13 teams have already registered for the competition.
The Bibaniada will feature play workshops for children, a screening of the documentary film Ivan - omul cu radacini în ape (Ivan - the man with roots in water), directed by Ana Preda, as well as concerts by Radu Captari, Lucica Buhaev and the Sinicika choir from Mila 23, Alex Onofrei on the harmonica, Irina Mihailov and the Slaveanka group from Slava Cercheza, and the Bucharest International Women's Choir.
