Almost 100,000 cases of respiratory infections over 8-14 December week

The number of acute respiratory infection cases - clinical flu, acute upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia - in Romania for the week December 8 - 14 is standing at 99,034, National Centre for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases within the National Institute of Public Health reported on Thursday

There were 22% more cases than in the previous week (81,174) and 5.6% fewer cases than in the same week of the previous season (104,923). The increase compared with the average of 96,725 cases recorded in the past seasons (2018-2025 excluding the pandemic seasons) was 2.4%.

During the reporting period, 5,701 cases of clinical flu were recorded nationwide, compared with 1,421 cases in the same week of the previous season and 3,018 recorded in the preceding week.

Since the beginning of the season, 161 laboratory-confirmed cases of flu have been reported: 91 with unsubtyped influenza A virus, 59 with AH3, 8 with AH1 and 3 with influenza B virus.

By 14 December, 1,224,913 flu vaccinations had been recorded in the National Electronic Vaccination Register (1,201,059 for population groups eligible for reimbursement on a subsidised basis), including 5,621 vaccinations carried out in authorised community pharmacies.
