Students of the Faculty of Letters and History at the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University (UAIC) of Iasi will benefit, starting Tuesday, from a modern library.
The rector of UAIC, Liviu Maha, said, on the occasion of the inauguration, that the new library was built following an investment of over 16.5 million lei from European funds and offers students spaces for individual study, research and group academic activities.
"After a first project completed two years ago, through which we managed to consolidate this building, today we mark the completion of the project to operationalize the building, to equip it with furniture and all the necessary amenities. It is a moment in which we publicly announce, both to the academic community of our university, and to the Iasi and regional community, that the project was successful and that students now have access to a modern library, intended for study, reading and teamwork. Institutionally, we are particularly happy to see that students, in addition to reading, communicate and collaborate. Teamwork is valued at all faculties and fields of study of the university", the UAIC rector Liviu Maha said.
Present at the event, the director of the North-East Regional Development Agency (ADR N-E), Vasile Asandei, emphasized that the investment is part of a larger series of projects financed by European funds, aimed at improving the educational infrastructure in the region.
"I am glad that we are starting the year this way, by completing a project in the area of education, which demonstrates that we understand what is truly important. I congratulate the university not only for this project, but also for the entire activity in recent years, considering that you have successfully implemented several projects and I am convinced that others will follow," said Asandei.
The project was implemented over 17 months, between August 2024 and December 2025, and represents the continuation of an older program of consolidation of the university's O building. The arranged area is 708 square meters, and the financing was provided largely from non-reimbursable funds.
Through this investment, UAIC consolidates its position as an institution that focuses on modernizing educational infrastructure and creating spaces adapted to current university requirements.
