The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, on Tuesday discussed with the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Romania, Ali Yerlik, about the state of bilateral cooperation and the initiation of a Memorandum of Understanding to support joint development in the field of agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) informs in a post on the institution's Facebook page.
"The two high officials discussed the current state of cooperation and further strengthening the agricultural and agri-food sectors, and also development opportunities, depending on the areas of interest in the two countries. At the same time, they discussed the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of agriculture between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Romania and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This would be finalised during a working visit of the Romanian Minister of Agriculture to Astana, expected to take place later this year," the Ministry informs
According to the same source, the Memorandum of Understanding aims to develop cooperation in areas of common interest, such as plant and animal production, agricultural mechanisation, the food industry, rural development, the irrigation sector, agricultural consultancy services and scientific research.
The Republic of Kazakhstan is a strategic partner of Romania in Central Asia, the bilateral relationship between the two countries including mutual participation in economic and agricultural missions and exchanges of good practices, like cooperation in the field of agricultural research and between specialized universities in the two states, the same source specifies.
"Romania is open to strengthening international partnerships in agriculture, and cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan offers concrete opportunities for the development of the agri-food sector and for the exchange of expertise," stated the Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, quoted by the MARD.
