Romania's table tennis teams each won two games on Thursday at the World University Summer Games in the Rhine-Ruhr area (Germany).
In the women's team, Romania defeated the Netherlands, 3-1, in its first match in Group 5, thanks to the points scored by Elena Zaharia (3-0 with Emine Ernst), Evelyn Ungvari (3-1 with Dobrila Jorguseska) and Ioana Singeorzan (3-2 with Emine Ernst). In another match, Ioana Singeorzan lost the duel with Shuohan Men, 1-3, agerpres reports.
In the second match, Romania won against India, 3-2. Elena Zaharia won two games, 3-0 with Suhana Saini and 3-1 with Sayali Wani. Ioana Singeorzan scored the other point for the tricolors, after 3-0 with Suhana Saini. In other matches, Singeorzan lost 0-3 to Sayali Wani, and Andrea Teglas lost 2-3 to Taneesha Kotecha.
Romania won the group following these successes and qualified for the round of 16.
In the men's event, Romania clearly won both matches played, 3-0 against Australia and 3-0 against Switzerland.
In the first match, the tricolors' points were obtained by Eduard Ionescu (3-0 against Raymond Myrteza), Andrei Istrate (3-0 against Andrew Choi) and Darius Toma (3-1 against Sidney Win). In the second match, Ionescu defeated Mauro Schaerrer 3-1, Istrate defeated Loic Stoll 3-1, and Darius Movileanu prevailed 3-1 against Barish Moullet.
Romania won Group 5 and qualified for the round of 16.
Romania participates in the Universiade in Germany with a delegation of 78 people, of which 64 athletes, in 9 disciplines: athletics (women), basketball (women, men), rhythmic gymnastics, swimming (women, men), judo (women, men), beach volleyball (women, men), taekwondo (women, men), archery (women, men), table tennis (women, men)
