Defense Minister Radu Miruta met on Wednesday in Brussels with his Ukrainian counterpart, Mykhailo Fedorov, reaffirming on this occasion Romania's commitment to supporting Ukraine through bilateral training programs and participation in international initiatives.

According to a Ministry of National Defense release, the talks focused on security developments in the Black Sea region, support for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities, and coordination of efforts in the context of Russia's illegal and unprovoked aggression.

"Romania reiterated its commitment to supporting Ukraine through bilateral training programs and participation in international initiatives, including at European level, to capitalize on joint opportunities in the defense industry and technological cooperation, such as SAFE and BraveTech EU," the Ministry stated.

The Ukrainian side expressed appreciation for Romania's donation of a PATRIOT system and its financial contribution to NATO's Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), both considered important for strengthening the resilience of Ukraine's armed forces.

The meeting also tackled medium- and long-term support perspectives in multinational formats, increased interoperability, and the consolidation of the regional security architecture.

"Romania's support for Ukraine is a direct investment in Europe's and NATO's security, an investment in our own security. We will continue to contribute actively to collective defense and deterrence efforts through training, participation in international missions and involvement in multinational initiatives," the Romanian Defense minister said.

The meeting reaffirmed the excellent level of bilateral dialogue and the shared commitment to deepening defense cooperation for the benefit of Euro-Atlantic stability and regional security, the Defense Ministry added.
