The president of the UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, declared on Wednesday that there is no alternative to the current governing formula and that a minority PNL-USR government supported by the opposition AUR would be "catastrophic".
"It would be catastrophic [a minority PNL-USR government supported from opposition by AUR] so one doesn't have to go that far. From my point of view, there is no alternative to the current formula. Or if you are looking for an alternative, it must still be a majority government. A government made up of two parties and supported by whoever can and whoever has the time and inclination, I believe that today, for Romania, it would be a huge mistake. I still hope that these tensions, conflicts, even misunderstandings in the coalition, after the Easter holidays, can be resolved wisely, because that was our mission: to go together. President Dan was right when he said that this coalition is condemned to work, to go together", Kelemen Hunor told the press, at Brancovenesti, in Mures County.
Asked what solutions he sees for resolving the government crisis, Kelemen Hunor stressed that the only way is dialogue.
"Dialogue, arguments, reason, these are the solutions. Today, when we are discussing the coalition and at this time and there are these tensions, then there is nothing else but to sit down at the table. Maybe we need a few days, two or three weeks, until after the Easter holidays, and to find a solution together, otherwise we will end up in a dead end. We do not want this", the UDMR leader also stated.
