Romanian tennis player Irina Begu qualified on Monday for the round of 16 of the UniCredit Iasi Open (WTA 250) tournament, with total prizes of 239,212 euros, while Miriam Bulgaru lost in the first round.
Begu (34 years old, no. 110 WTA), the seventh seed, defeated the Japanese Nao Hibino (30 years old, no. 175 WTA) 6-1, 6-2, after 69 minutes.
Begu secured a cheque for 3,624 euros and 30 WTA points, and in the round of 16 she will face the winner of Giulia Safina Popa (who came from the qualifiers) and Andorran Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva.
Miriam Bulgaru (26 years old, no. 219 WTA) was defeated by Swiss Jil Teichmann (27 years old, no. 102 WTA), the sixth seed, 1-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-1, after two hours and 19 minutes.
Bulgaru remains with 2,585 euros and one WTA point.
