Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan qualified on Tuesday for the round of sixteen of the WTA tournament in Taipei (Taiwan), featuring overall prizes of 226,750 US dollars, after defeating the first seed, Chinese Shuai Peng, 6-4, 6-1.
Ana Bogdan (25), who for the first time has made it in top 100 (WTA's 89th), prevailed in an hour and 14 minutes to an experienced adversary (32), WTA's 31st.
Ana Bogdan ensured a 3,400-US dollar cheque and 30 WTA points and in the round of sixteen she will face off the winner of the event between Eugenie Bouchard (Canada) and Lin Zhu (China).
On Monday, Monica Niculescu qualified for the round of sixteen in Taipei, after Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) abandoned at 6-1, 4-0 and will play against Kazakh Zarina Diyas (No. 6).
