Secretary of State for Euro-Atlantic bilateral and strategic affairs with Romania's Foreign Ministry (MAE) George Ciamba underscored in Berlin the special importance that the Government of Romania grants to the creation of a favorable framework in terms of preserving the identity of the German minority and highlighted the fact that the results of the Romanian-German collaboration in this area represent an example at European level, the MAE informs.
George Ciamba chaired the works of the 21st session of the Romanian-German Governmental Committee for German ethnics of Romania, that was carried out in Berlin on Tuesday and Wednesday, alongside co-chair Bernard Fabritius, commissioned by the German Federal Government to be in charge with immigrants and national minorities within the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
According to a release of the MAE, the committee appreciated the measures taken by Romania starting the year of its creation, namely 1992, which have contributed to the preservation of traditions and identity of the German minority. Taking into account that the current session was carried out in the year of the Greater Union Centennial, the historic role played by the German ethnics in achieving this desideratum was highlighted.
The representatives of both parties showed the positive influence of the German minority in the development of the Romanian society and the bilateral relations. Within the session also reviewed was the stage of completion of the project stipulated in the Protocol concluded at the previous session of the Mixed Committee (Bucharest, 10-11 April 2017) and the initiation of some new projects in relevant areas for the German ethnics of Romania has been agreed.
The parties negotiated and adopted the Protocol of the 21st session of the Mixed Committee, that establishes the main cooperation objectives of the two governments in this area and the framework for the subsequent development of the projects destined to the German ethnics of Romania.
The Romanian side extended an invitation to the German side to the works of the next Mixed Committee which are to be held next year in Bucharest.
The session was also attended by Romania's Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Emil Hurezeanu and Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Romania Cord Meier-Klodt.
