Secretary of State for Strategic and Bilateral Affairs in the Euro-Atlantic Space George Ciamba had a meeting with NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defence Policy and Planning Heinrich Brauss, whom he exchanged views and assessment with on the current security situation, a press release of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday informs.
The talks revolved around the major topics in the allies' focus in view of the future summit scheduled for July this year, based on the decisions adopted at the most recent reunions of Foreign Affairs and Defence ministers of the NATO member states.
At the same time, the importance of consolidating the Alliance's capacity to face all current threats, irrespective of their origin was underscored. Moreover, talks aimed the priorities along the cooperation line between NATO and the European Union.
Secretary of State George Ciamba highlighted the importance of the measures regarding the strengthening of NATO's defence and deterrence posture on the eastern flank, underscoring the need for all the decisions related to the advanced allied presence, including in the Black Sea area, to be fully implemented.
"He brought to mind, within the context, the need for a comprehensive, balanced and coherent approach of the Alliance on the eastern flank, as part of the consolidation efforts of NATO's posture, as a whole, and reiterated Romania's commitment to continue to actively contribute to the efforts of dealing with the threats coming from the Eastern part of the European continent, as well as those coming from the southern vicinity," MAE specifies.
As regards the NATO- EU cooperation, Ciamba pointed out the special importance granted by Romania to ensuring the complementarity between the two organisations and appreciated that the important developments at the EU level in security and defence need to be capitalised on for deepening cooperation with NATO, included.
