The Social Liberal Humanist Party (PUSL) on Monday in an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu demanded the state authorities to find solutions to stop "imports disguised as waste."

"Although we have clear European directives, national laws and unequivocal enforcement procedures, 99.9% of shipments entering the country, by water or land, as second-hand products or "aids" are, in fact, waste imports in disguise (...). The situation must not be tolerated under any circumstances and I expect the Ministry of Water and Forestry, the Ministry of the Interior, SRI [Romanian Intelligence Service], the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) and all relevant subordinates will find solutions, instead of just complaining!" stated deputy Gabriela Gavrilescu, president of the PUSL Executive Office, in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

In the deputy's opinion, such crimes could not be registered if the authorities acted "by the book."

"Romania has its own industry and imports enough electrical appliances and new textiles and creates enough second-hand and waste that need to be managed! We just need to act by the book, we need to act in good faith, we need political will, firmness, dignity, honour and courage to stop this dangerous situation for the health of the environment, the economy and, last but not least, the Romanians!" said the same source.
