Romanian tennis player Simona Halep occupies for the 51st week of her career the first place in the WTA rankings, thus reaching the number 10 position in the all time leaders of this hierarchy, on par with Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka.
Halep, absent from the the WTA Finals , due to back problems, has her WTA leader chair guaranteed until the end of this year, when she makes it to 60 weeks.
Our country's representative has an advance of over 1,500 points from German player Angelique Keber, which climbed, as of Monday, to the second position in the WTA rankings, swapping places with Danish player Caroline Wozniacki.
Romania has another five representatives in the WTA top 100: Mihaela Buzarnescu - spot 24 (+1), Irina Begu - 66 (-13), Ana Bogdan - 72 (+1), Monica Niculescu - 82 and Sorana Cirstea - 85 (+1).
In the doubles event, the highest ranking Romanian players are Irina Begu and Mihaela Buzarnescu, who are on the 23rd, 24th spot.
