AGERPRES special correspondent Tudor Martalogu reports: European Commission Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness Roxana Minzatu announced on Monday for AGERPRES the approval of "the transfer of 522 million euros to the Health Programme 2021-2027 to ensure that Romania will be able to complete nine new hospitals."
The investments were taken over from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). As a result of the modification, the eligibility period for the entire Health Programme has been extended from 31 December 2029 to 31 December 2030.
The medical units that will benefit from this funding are: Oradea County Emergency Hospital, Alba Iulia County Emergency Hospital, the Regional Oncology Institute in Timisoara, Bacau County Emergency Hospital, Arges County Emergency Hospital, Vaslui County Emergency Hospital, Giurgiu County Emergency Hospital, the "Dr Ion Jianu" Military Emergency Hospital in Pitesti and the "Prof Dr Dimitrie Gerota" Emergency Hospital in Bucharest.
In addition, within the components financed through the ESF+ (European Social Fund Plus, the European Union's main instrument for investment in people, social inclusion and employment), a new measure for reproductive health will also be introduced, worth 16.1 million euros, aimed at supporting in vitro fertilisation treatments for vulnerable groups.
The hospitals were selected by the Romanian authorities and prioritised according to the stage of implementation, with the objective of improving the population's access to essential medical services and quality care.
