Romanian boxer Florin Ionita secured a medal at the EUBC Under-23 Men and Women Boxing Championships in Sofia on Wednesday, after advancing to the semifinals of the men's +92 kg class, following his win on points (4-1) against Moldovan Nicolai Burdiuja.
In the semis, Ionita will face the Ukrainian Vasil Tkachuk today
In the women's events, Romania has secured two medals, one in the 66 kg class, won by Loredana Andreea Marin, who progressed directly for the semifinals, where she will meet Latvian Kitija Zarberga. In the 81 kg category, Maria Gheorghita Cimpoeru also advanced directly for the semifinals, and will meet Ukrainian Irina Lutsak.
The competition organised by the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) is attended by 327 athletes from 35 countries.
