Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian on Sunday advanced to the second round of the singles event at the Candian Open WTA 1,000 tournament in Montreal, Canada, prize money USD 5,152,599, after defeating Canadian Marina Stakusic, 2-6 6-2 6-2.
It took Jaqueline Cristian, 27, world number 59, almost two hours of play (1 h 56 min) to get past Stakusic, 20, world number 142, in their first meet.
For her performance so far in Montreal, Cristian won USD 19,705 and 35 WTA singles. Her next opponent will be Czech Linda Noskova, 20, world number 23, who comes after a final played on Saturday in Prague. This will be their first meet.
On the singles main draw there are two more Romanians, Gabriela Ruse, who will play the British Emma Raducanu; and Sorana Cirstea, who will play New Zealand's Lulu Sun.
