Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian on Tuesday progressed to the second round of the women's singles at the US Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year, after defeating American Danielle Collins 6-0 6-2.
It took Cristian, 27, world number 50, only 65 minutes to prevail, agerpres reports
The Romanian had four aces, made two double faults, totalled 20 winners and made 10 unforced errors.
Collins, 31, world number 61, managed two aces, made six double faults, totalled 14 winners, but made 31 unforced errors.
Cristian took her revenge after being defeated by the American last year, in the third round in Madrid, 3-6 6-4 6-1.
For her performance so far, Cristian won USD 154,000 and 70 singles WTA points, and in the second round she will face another American, the winner between Sofia Kenin and Ashlyn Kruger.
This is the first time that Cristian makes it through the opening round at Flushing Meadows.
