More than 400,000 Romanians annually put up for sale over 1.8 million mobile phones, the main reason being the desire to buy a more performing one, according to a survey conducted by an online trade platform and issued for AGERPRES on Wednesday.
Their ads generate more than 18 million contacts per year from potential buyers who choose to buy a second-hand phone due to the affordable price and the ability to negotiate directly with the seller.
The trend has been on the rise in the past years, and an increase of 30pct is estimated for 2018, says the OLX platform, the author of the survey.
"Romanians are constantly upgrading their mobile phone and this puts in circulation very good mobile phones at affordable prices. Our users post more than 190,000 new ads per month and the number of new ads on the platform is also supported by a wide variety of brands and models. The latest launches on the smartphone market have also brought on OLX a wave of state-of-the-art mobile phones," Paul Neagoe, Business Manager, OLX Romania, was quoted as saying in the release.
According to a survey conducted in the "Phones" category from 1 to 15 October on a sample of 1,078 users, 41.71pct of the respondents said they were selling their mobile phone to buy a more-performing one.
Also, 25.78pct are pleased with having access to many buyers, and 23.53pct of users say their products sell very quickly through the platform.
The most sought-after brands of mobile phones on OLX are Samsung, iPhone and Huawei. In terms of prices, the average varies for each brand. Thus, for iPhones, prices reach 1,450 lei, for Samsung 954 lei and 835 lei for Huawei.
