Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan discussed on Friday with the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Energy the issue of rising fuel prices, later announcing that a new meeting with those responsible in the field will take place next week to finalize solutions that "will produce the maximum possible benefits, with minimal adverse effects."

"Today I discussed with Ministers Alexandru Nazare and Bogdan Ivan, with representatives of the Ministry of Economy, ANAF, the Competition Council and ANAP, about the situation of the fuel market in Romania, in the extremely complicated context of the conflict in the Middle East.

On international markets, we have an increase in fuel prices between 40 and 60%, as a result of the supply blockage, a situation that affects all countries, including Romania. We have analyzed, with the data on the table, both the supply situation, the evolution of prices and the estimation of their dynamics in the coming days, as well as possible solutions to temper the increase in fuel prices. We are checking how prices are formed, in order to avoid speculative increases. The technical teams will also work at the end of this week," wrote Ilie Bolojan in a post on Facebook.

He specified that a new meeting will take place at the beginning of next week to finalize these solutions.

"These are not easy decisions to make, because the dangers we must act on are multiple, in conditions where we cannot control the price at which crude oil enters the market, and supply chains are disrupted. An attempt to rush the market, through an arbitrary price cap, can lead to shortages. On the other hand, a decrease in excise duties must guarantee a price reduction and be bearable by the budget voted today for 2026, in conditions of reducing the deficit," explained Bolojan.

The Prime Minister emphasized that he refuses to sell populist solutions that would create the appearance of aid, behind which new imbalances and costs would appear.

"Whatever solutions we adopt, they must be thought out down to the smallest detail, so as to produce the maximum possible benefits, with minimal adverse effects. This is what we are working on and this is what we will deliver," Bolojan added.
