Romania has an active profile in the field of academic and scientific Francophonie, ranking second worldwide in terms of the number of universities affiliated with the University Agency of Francophonie, with about 110 university programs taught in French.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) makes these clarifications in the context of the celebration of the International Day of Francophonie, which takes place this year under the theme "Generation Peace? Youth's contribution to a more peaceful world".
''Young people represent our common future, being true agents of change, and it is essential to ensure an adequate education for the younger generations, which will provide them with the necessary tools to transform challenges into opportunities and build a more peaceful world. Fully committed to supporting the educational path of young Francophone students and researchers, Romania has a particularly active profile in the field of academic and scientific Francophonie, ranking second worldwide in terms of the number of universities affiliated with the University Agency of Francophonie, with around 110 university programs taught in French," the MAE said in a release sent to AGERPRES on Friday.
As a result, more and more French-speaking students and young researchers are choosing to study in Romania, attracted by the quality of education offered in French-language programs and by scholarships funded by the Romanian state, the MAE said.
"Continuing on these lines of exceptional performance of Romanian education in French is essential to ensure the maintenance of this specific advantage of Romania at the level of Francophonie. The consolidated profile of our country within the institutional Francophonie would not have been possible without a collective and long-term effort made by the Francophones in Romania - authorities and institutions, but especially committed and passionate people - diplomats, people of culture, teachers, researchers, journalists, students and pupils'', emphasizes the cited source.
A number of 396 million French-speaking inhabitants of the Francophone area celebrate, since 1970, the International Day of Francophonie on March 20. Fifty-six years ago, in Niamey, the Agency for Cultural and Technical Cooperation was founded, which later became the International Organization of Francophonie.
The MAE extends its congratulations to all Francophones in Romania and in the 90 member states and governments of the International Organization of Francophonie, the press release states.
