Romanian men's sabre team wins silver in World Cup in Algiers

The Romanian men's sabre team was defeated by France (Maxime Pianfetti, Jean-Philippe Patrice, Sebastien Patrice, Remi Garrigue) 45-38 on Sunday in the final of the World Cup in Algiers.

Romania (George Dragomir, Vlad Covaliu, Razvan Ursachi, Radu Nitu) defeated Chile in the first round 45-29, overcame Poland in the round of 16 45-33, defeated Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals 45-30, and won against Japan in the semi-finals 45-40. Japan claimed the bronze medal after a 45-32 win over Russia.

In the women's sabre event, Romania (Amalia Covaliu, Anastasia Fusea, Catinca Dumitru, Andreea Serbanoiu) finished in 20th place after being defeated by Azerbaijan in the first round 45-37.

In the men's individual competition, Vlad Covaliu ranked 7th, Razvan Ursachi 24th, Radu Nitu 45th, Matei Cidu 64th, and George Dragomir 152nd.

In the women's individual event, Amalia Covaliu finished 38th, Anastasia Fusea ranked 84th, Catinca Dumitru 132nd, and Andreea Serbanoiu 142nd.
