Justice Minister Marinescu, EC representatives meeting part of annual rule of law cycle

Justice Minister Radu Marinescu on Tuesday met representatives of the European Commission, as part of the country visit paid in the context of the annual rule of law cycle.

According to a Justice Ministry (MJ) press release sent to AGERPRES, the meeting took place at the institution headquarters, as national coordinator of this exercise, thus marking the debut of the series of meeting scheduled in the period 10-12 February between European Commission and national authorities representatives.

"Justice Minister Radu Marinescu thanked the European Commission delegation for the efficient and robust cooperation, appreciating that this year the country visit takes place in person, which allows a direct and open dialogue aimed at Romania's progress regarding the judiciary and the fight against corruption," the press release points out.

The European Commission country visits represent a proper instrument to assess the situation on field as well as an important part of the process of drawing up the European Commission Rule of Law Report, the aforementioned source says.

According to the release, the European Commission delegation, headed by Julien Mousnier, Director of the 'Rule of Law, Fundamental. Rights and Democracy' Directorate of the Commission's Directorate General for Justice, appreciated the Justice Ministry's openness to dialogue in the annual exercise on the rule of law. At the same time, the delegation thanked the minister for the objective presentation of the main developments registered in 2025 and for the answers provided to aspects of interest for the European Commission.

"Observing the principles of the rule of law and the protection of the fundamental rights aimed at consolidating democracy remain constant priorities of my tenure. I further support the efforts and actions directed to the fulfillment of all country recommendations for a judiciary system as efficient and functional as possible, to the citizens' service," Radu Marinescu is quoted in the release as saying.
