Romanian citizens among workers confirmed with COVID-19 at meat processing company in Dissen

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) has informed on Thursday that, among the persons confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 at the meat processing company in the German town of Dissen, were also Romanian citizens.

MAE announced that, as soon as information surfaced related to the identification of some COVID-19 infection cases among the workers at a meat processing company in Dissen town, the German land in Lower Saxony, it took immediate steps through Romania's Embassy in Berlin to check whether there were Romanian citizens among the infected people.

According to the preliminary data obtained by the Embassy representatives, a MAE release informs that there were indeed Romanian citizens among the persons confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 who work for the respective company, and so far, there are no concrete data regarding them, with total number of diagnosed employees following to be disclosed in the next days.

All the infected persons have a mild form of disease or they are asymptomatic and benefit from the support of the employing company for the procurement of necessary products during this period, the MAE mentions. According to the data communicated by the diplomatic mission, the steps of the relevant German authorities and the situation management are underway, and the company is closely cooperating with the local authorities in order to take all the necessary measures in this context.

At the level of Romania's Embassy in Berlin, there have been no requests coming from the Romanian citizens who carry out their activity at this company.

The Embassy is keeping in touch with both the local authorities and company representatives, being ready to provide the necessary consular assistance, within the limits of legal authority and with the strict observance of measures adopted in the context of COVID-19 pandemic.

The MAE reiterates that Romania's diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad are treating with "priority" any request for support from the Romanian citizens and carry out demarches to solve every situation, as far as possible, in the context of the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, the MAE recommends Romanian citizens who are abroad and who are confronted with difficult situations, including in cases in which their rights are not observed, to get in contact with the nearest diplomatic mission or consular office.
