According to a SPP news statement released on Wednesday, the SPP chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear or explosive hazard specialists took part, for five days, alongside their counterparts from the other agencies of the National Defence, Public Order and Security System in a series of training exercises provided by American experts.
"The Romanian specialists simulated real-life WMD attacks. Experts of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) together with officials of the US Nuclear Safety Administration of the US Department of Energy presented and tested with the Romanian trainees state-of-art techniques and methods for detecting radiation and investigating radiological incidents."
Bucharest hosts the only FBI WMD office in Europe. There are two other similar offices abroad, one each in Dubai and Singapore. An FBI official is permanently deployed in Romania to provide, in crisis situations, advice, technical expertise as well as logistic and human support to Romanian specialists.
