There are 2,150 civil servants and contract staff from all over Romania having graduated from a professional training programme in the Romanian public administration for qualification in the profession of expert in sustainable development, which is unique at the level of the European Union, state adviser Laszlo Borbely said on Thursday in Targu Mures.
Borbely announced that under this project designed in 2018, the General Secretariat of the Government (SGG) and the Department for Sustainable Development (DDD) made it possible for the 2,150 graduates, qualified as experts in sustainable development, to be included in a national network dedicated to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (UN) and Romania's National Strategy for Sustainable Development.
"I want to tell you that we are in 2025, and all the targets have been met also thanks to you. And if we refer to this wonderful job, which you should know that we are unique in the European Union, we are unique in the very world. I think there are a few countries that still have such a job and to tell you one last recognition that we have done well, what we designed in 2018, is the UN High-Level Summit, which is held in July, in New York, every year, at the level of ministers, prime ministers, and which has a three-page summary. And, loo and behold, they probably found out that we have these courses this year, with 2,000 experts, those from the UN. And in the three-page summary, half a page is about Romania, about you, because in half a page it congratulates Romania, best practices for other countries, the OECD says the same. So we are not yet a member of the OECD - since 2020 we have accepted the OECD principles for sustainable development and in New York, for 4 years, we have been organising side events together. They choose Romania from the 38 countries. Why? Because we did the good job (...). We are experts in sustainable development and we are pioneers in that regard," said coordinator of the Department for Sustainable Development, Laszlo Borbely, at a graduation ceremony in Targu Mures.
In addition, Borbely said, it is also a One-Stop Shop (OSS) platform, which will use artificial intelligence and will be completed by the end of the year, at the latest in March 2026.
"And it will be a user- friendly platform, which will tell everyone everything that means sustainable development, from complicated things, because you have learned a lot of technical things, to simple things for the next generation as well. Because what sustainable development means is very simple, it means making decisions so that the next generation lives better. And you, of course until now, but from now on, you will surely make many more decisions related to the sustainable development of Romania. Romania, which, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe and in the world - has five ecosystems, unique in Europe (...). We have different ethnic communities, we are, I think the only ones in the European Union, who still have 19 ethnic minorities in Parliament," Laszlo Borbely said.
