Romania reported a natural population decrease in September 2018, compared with the previous month, with the number of deaths exceeding by 1,671 live births, according to data with the National Institute of Statistics (INS) released on Monday.
In September 2018, 17,055 births were reported, down 1,978 from August 2018. The number of deaths recorded in September 2018 was 18,726, down 1,737 from August 2018.
The number of deaths of children under one year of age recorded in September 2018 was 103, up by 5 on August 2018.
On the other hand, in September 2018, 20,149 marriages were recorded at the registrar's office, 2,657 fewer than in August 2018. The number of divorces pronounced under final court rulings, pursuant to Law 202/2010 was 2,584, by 315 more than in August 2018.
Compared with the same month in 2017, the number of live births went down by 297 in September 2018, and the number of deaths increased by 126 against September 2017.
The natural population change was negative both in September 2018 (-1,671 people) and in September 2017 (-1,248 persons).
Deaths of children under the age of one in September 2018 were down 16 against September 2017.
Marriages were by 537 fewer in September 2018 than in the same month of the previous year. Final divorces declined by four in September 2018 as against September 2017.
