Romania will participate, over January 15-18, in the International Tourism Fair in Vienna - Ferien-Messe Wien, where Banat's candidacy for the title of European Gastronomic Region in 2028 will also be promoted.

"We are really dependent on the Vienna fair. There are times during the year when we have more tourists from Austria or Germany than from Bucharest. This is due mainly to the fact that we are not talking about a long distance, which allows many of them to come by car, as there is no need for a plane. So we cannot afford to miss this event. I am happy and proud that we managed to organise ourselves in this way and I can confirm that each of my colleagues at the stand of this edition will represent Romania with the greatest love and responsibility. The Banat - European Gastronomic Region project is extremely important both to us and for our country. There are events that, although they may not seem important for those outside the field or for those who have entered this sector only recently, give extremely important signals both from an economic and touristic point of view, as well as from a political point of view. We hope that, although it is unofficial, Romania's presence at this event will be a positive signal from all points of view," Corina Macri, president of Horetim and vice-president of the Federation of Hospitality Industry Employers (FPIOR), said in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

According to the same press release, the partners ensuring Romania's presence at the event in Austria are: Timis County Council, Arad County Council, APDT (The Association for Technological Diplomacy) Sibiu, the Sibiu Tourism Promotion and Development Association, Visit Oradea Association, Produs în Banat, Visit Timis and Horetim Associations - a founding member of FPIOR.

In this context, Banat has submitted its candidacy for the title of European Gastronomic Region in 2028, a project initiated by the Timis County Council, Visit Timis and Horetim.

The representative of the embassy in Vienna will support Romania's presence at the fair. "Although, as we know, this is a period without an ambassador in office in Vienna, we are honoured to have the representative of the Embassy in Vienna with us," Macri also mentioned.

The Vienna Tourism Fair Ferien-Messe Wien is the largest event of its kind in Austria, but also one of the most important in Europe. Held annually in January, the fair marks the start of the tourist season for the European market.
