Romania has all the ingredients to overcome, by the end of 2026, the fiscal-budgetary context it is currently going through, through a well-developed plan and through consistency, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare told a Wednesday's specialized event, inform Agerpres.
"The Ministry of Finance is and remains a solid partner of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). We have conveyed this message whenever we had the opportunity. We have the Fidelis bonds, we constantly participate in everything that the Stock Exchange's action means - and we want it developed as much as possible. We want to create additional instruments through which to support the Stock Exchange and even come up with new legislative amendments that can ensure liquidity for the Stock Exchange. We are attentive to all these things, we consulted when we discussed both Package 1 and Package 2 - and we will continue to do so, in the fiscal-budgetary context that we are going through today, which is not exactly the happiest, but it is a context that we will overcome. From my point of view, we have all the ingredients to overcome it by the end of 2026 through a well-developed plan and through consistency. I want to convey this message because there is this issue that is very much debated, publicly discussed, related to how long this period will be, when we manage to overcome this period in which we are making the budgetary adjustment", Alexandru Nazare told the 8th edition of the Capital Market Forum, with the theme "30 years since the reopening of the BVB", an event organized by Financial Intelligence.
He emphasized that this budgetary adjustment should have been started and finalized 5 years ago, in the conditions in which it was "a 10-year process in which we received recommendations from the Commission on this issue, until 2019".
The minister of finance added that Romania receives 16 billion euros for Security Action for Europe (SAFE).
"We have now obtained over 16 billion for SAFE. It is not only money for defense, there is also 4-5 billion that is simply development money, money that will go into the development of motorways. In each such very large negotiation in which Romania obtains resources, we must be in advance, anticipate and negotiate these things in time. Following this plan, seeing the effects of Package 1, Package 2 and all the other measures that we intend to take in the coming period, these measures ensure a return to the trajectory at the end of 2026. I can tell you that this intention exists, it is included in the PNRR", the minister also said.
At the same time, he emphasized that discussions regarding the listing of companies will take place in the coming period.
"Discussions regarding the specific listings will take place in the next period and a decision will be made in the Government and the coalition on this issue. I would not like to speculate now what the listings will be, but I can tell you that yes, they must be done, we have this intention, besides the fact that it is an obligation in the PNRR, it is an issue that we care about and it is very important. As with everything that means change in the governance of state companies, which we do not do just for internal efficiency or to adjust some expenses of state companies, we do it because these state companies must become players. They must become players in what South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe means, to move in the region, to make investments, to grow, because through these state companies Romania becomes active in everything that means regional economy. This must be our plan for state-owned companies and not just adjustments related to internal governance. It all depends on our economic ambition, on how we set our level of ambition. Fiscal discipline is just the foundation", the minister mentioned.
In his opinion, without fiscal discipline we cannot have such ambitions related to Romania's development, "as long as we have problems with budget construction, with respecting targets, with respecting the promises we make in various commitments we have with partners".
"I hope that these things will be resolved once and for all, because they should not depend on the color of a government, on the orientation of a government, but on the orientation of the country. These things, once they are negotiated, are negotiated in the name of Romania, not in the name of a party or in the name of a coalition or in the name of a political faction, but we negotiate them in the name of Romania and we must negotiate them well", Nazare emphasized.
