Romania can consolidate and expand the presence of its agri-food products on the Egyptian market, Romania's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Florin Barbu wrote on Tuesday in a social media post.
"Romania can strengthen and expand the presence of its agri-food products on the Egyptian market, and dialogue with their partners is essential to transforming this potential into actual projects. We want a stronger bilateral cooperation, based not only on traditional exports of cereals and livestock, but also on the exchange of expertise, technology and good practices to the benefit of farmers and the business environment in both countries," Barbu said.
An interest in continuing Romanian exports of cereals and livestock was highlighted, as well as in expanding cooperation in areas such as sustainable agriculture, exchange of expertise, agricultural research, irrigation and modern technologies applied in agriculture.
Barbu on Tuesday discussed with Egypt's ambassador to Romania Mohammed Orfy strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural and agri-food sector, analysing the opportunities for increasing Romanian exports and expanding collaboration in areas such as sustainable agriculture, irrigation and modern technologies.
During the meeting, the prospects for the further development of the ties between the two countries were analysed. "Conversation focused on furthering relations between the two countries, intensifying commercial exchanges and capitalising on the existing opportunities for Romanian agri-food products on the Egyptian market," the ministry said.
Egypt remains an important partner to Romanian agriculture, being in recent years one of the relevant markets for Romania's agri-food produce, especially wheat and corn.
