The total monthly average income of the population in the fourth quarter of 2025 was 9,454 lei per household and 3,804 lei per person, up 0.4% compared with the third quarter of 2025, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) release on Tuesday.
Compared with the fourth quarter of the previous year, the total monthly average income per household increased 10.3%, while per person it rose 11.1%.
The total monthly average expenditure of the population in the fourth quarter of 2025, in nominal terms, was 8,075 lei per household (3,249 lei per person) and represented 85.4% of total income, down by 4 lei per household compared with the third quarter of 2025. Compared with the fourth quarter of the previous year, average total monthly expenditure per household increased by 11%, while per person it rose 11.7%.
According to INS, monthly average monetary income in the fourth quarter of 2025 was 8,863 lei per household (3,566 lei per person), down 0.2% compared with the third quarter of 2025, while income in kind was 591 lei per household (238 lei per person), up 10.5% compared with the third quarter of 2025.
Gross wages and other salary-related entitlements amounted to 6,466 lei per household per month and represented the most important source of total income (68.4% of total household income, at the same level as in the third quarter of 2025). Total household income was also supported by social benefits amounting to 1,877 lei per household per month (19.8% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 20.1% in the third quarter of 2025 of total household income), as well as income in kind of 591 lei per household per month (6.3% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 5.7% in the third quarter of 2025), consisting of the value of in-kind income obtained by employees and social benefit recipients (1.2% in both the fourth and third quarters of 2025) and the value in lei of agri-food and non-food products consumed from own resources (5.1% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 4.5% in the third quarter of 2025).
Monthly average monetary expenditure in the fourth quarter of 2025 was 7,594 lei per household (3,056 lei per person), 0.8% lower than in the third quarter of 2025.
The value of consumption of agri-food and non-food products from own resources in the fourth quarter of 2025 was, on average, 480 lei per household per month (193 lei per person), up 14.3% compared with the third quarter of 2025.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the main destinations of household expenditure were consumption (monetary consumption expenditure and the value of human consumption from own resources) of 4,834 lei per household per month (59.9%) and transfers to public administration and to public and private social insurance funds, in the form of taxes, contributions, dues and charges, amounting to 2,711 lei per household (33.6%).
Expenditure related to household production (monetary production expenditure and the value of feed consumption from own resources) amounted to 174 lei per household (2.1%) in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The lowest level of monthly average household expenditure was recorded in spending on education, at only 26 lei per household (0.5% of total average monthly consumption expenditure).
