Romania at top of points standings, fourth in medal tally of U20 Balkan Athletics Championships

Romania finished at the top of the points standings of the U20 Balkan Athletics Championships held on Sunday on the 'Nicolae Marasescu' Athletics Stadium in Craiova, ranking fourth in the medal tally.

Romania, which fielded 48 athletes, totaled 154 points, followed by Turkey (43 athletes) with 138 points, and Greece (33 athletes) with 136.5 points, the Romanian Athletics Federation said.

In the medal standings Bulgaria (34 athletes) took first place with 7 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze, followed by Turkey (5-3-7), Serbia (4-3-3), Romania (3-9-3), Ukraine (3-4-4), Greece (3-3-4), Slovenia (2-5-3) etc.

The athletes who earned gold for Romania were Stefania Balint in the women's 400m track race, Alexandra Maria Hudea in the women's 3,000m event, and Daria Maria Vrinceanu in women's triple jump.

374 athletes from 18 countries competed in 30 men's and women's events.
