The result of the presidential election in Romania has revealed a painful truth: the failure and impotence of the governments so far, the lack of unity of the democratic, reformist forces and the fact that there have been too few such voices in Parliament are costing us the current disaster, claim the representatives of REPER.

"Democracy is under attack today and must be defended. In this critical context, the REPER party expresses its firm support for Elena Lasconi and calls on all pro-democratic political forces to unite to form a cordon sanitaire against extremism and the destructive influences that threaten Romania," states a press release from the party.

Ramona Strugariu, co-president of REPER, points out that "extremism and Putinism are no longer just external dangers; they are already present here, at home."

"We have in the second round of the presidential election a more radical candidate than AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians). This says something about the failure of politics so far and about the forgotten Romania: the vulnerable, those ignored in their needs, the silent and fed up with lies. The parties responsible for the deep wounds in society should wake up, at the 12th hour. We cannot afford to become the Kremlin's useful idiots. It is time to fight together to protect the Presidency and transform the Romanian Parliament into a shield that defends democracy, prosperity and progress of Romania," stated Strugariu, according to the said source.

The REPER party reaffirms that "only through a united and determined mobilization on December 1 and 8 we can stop the rise of extremism and legionarism, which are a real danger for Romania."

"The Parliament must be saved. REPER sends professional people there, solid in their pro-democracy fight and against extremism, throughout their careers. This is what Romania needs," the REPER leaders said.
